Chroma Hair Studio in Highgate Hill is running its inaugural charity fundraising event, hosting a six kilometre charity walk on Sunday 28 October.

This year’s event aims to raise both awareness and much needed funds for the Love Your Sister Foundation which continues to support breast cancer research. Breast cancer now affects one in eight women in Australia and at least one per cent of the male population. Chroma’s mission is to raise $7000 for this worthy cause, with its charity walk starting at the Highgate Hill Salon and ending at the James Street Salon. Other fundraising efforts include a raffle, for which the studio welcomes donations from local businesses.

Love Your Sister was founded by brother-sister duo Samuel and Connie Johnson. After mum-of-two Connie was told that she was terminally ill with breast cancer, Samuel set off to ride around the entire country on a unicycle to personally remind every young women to check their breasts. The duo managed to raise $1.4 million in one year for the Garvan Research Foundation. Their goal is now to raise $10 million towards breast cancer research. This includes a contribution towards the new Breast Cancer Lab at Garvan, which costs $20,000 per month to operate.
