Queensland Symphony Orchestra presents Piano Man. From a concerto written for a pianist with only one hand, to a piece that the composer refused to allow played in his lifetime, this performance is full of music that defies the norm. Daniel Blendulf is conducting and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is the pianist.
Be amazed by Scriabin’s symphonic poem that reflects on philosophies as diverse as Buddhism, Nietzsche and Schopenhauer. Marvel at Debussy’s Fantaisie, that he never allowed to be performed in his lifetime, despite its sensual atmosphere and pure piano power. Be struck by the cleverness of Ravel’s Concerto for Left Hand, commissioned for Paul Wittgenstein who had lost an arm in World War I, as the music soars artistically, making its one hand restriction inconsequential.
