Kleva Hive has officially opened a new musical theatre incubator program to operate alongside its production company that is producing two professional shows in May and August this year at Metro Arts.

The company will be commissioning new Australian musical theatre works and providing a platform for emerging professional artists to advance their careers. “We built both the incubator program and production group from the floorboards up –quite literally. Determined to give Australian creatives another stable platform for continued work – and one that allows Australian audiences to experience new works – we are already making plans to tour two shows around Australia in 2020,” said Dr Dan Jess, Artistic Director.

This week, the company also launched its first professional musical theatre show House of Mirrors and Hearts with an Australian premiere season at Metro Arts from 15 to 18 May, this year. With a talented cast of multi-award-winning local artists, including Chris Kellett, Fiona Buchanan, and Tyallah Bullock, the season is set to sell-out early. “Spending eight months to decide which show from a pile of 142 manuscripts should make the cut, we landed on House of Mirrors and Hearts because this is a story that people fall madly in love with, understand and want to see again. The music is beyond sublime. In fact, I think many will come just to hear the music. We hope to tour it next year, possibly offshore,” Jess said.

Applications are now open for those wishing to be considered for funding to have their new works commissioned by Kleva Hive.
