International American light artist James Turrell launched his latest installation Night Life 2018 at Brisbane’s Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) in the gallery’s forecourt on Friday 13 July, marking the 10th Anniversary of QAGOMA. The eastern and southern façades of the gallery have been completely transformed from dusk until midnight by the ambitious light installation, displaying shifts in tempo, hue and intensity of colour. Turrell’s large-scale luminous installation for QAGOMA is a first for the artist and unique in terms of the many other light works he has created in and on buildings and within the landscape around the world. Turrell’s artwork was admired and celebrated complete with food and beverage stalls.
