We spoke to Amanda Jolly, Executive Director of Queensland Theatre, about her favourite West End hotspots, and what she wished everyone knew about theatre.

Best thing about living or working in the 4101?

The diversity of the area — its people, businesses and culture. The 4101 is both a nod to Brisbane’s past and a glimpse of our city’s future. In this sense, it’s an ideal place for storytelling.

Favourite place for breakfast in the area?

Plenty!

The best coffee can be found at …

I’m a tea drinker, but the whole office would agree that Paul at Coffee Mentality makes the best coffee on our strip. Of course, when we open our Bille Brown Theatre, you will be able to buy an excellent cup of Merlo coffee when you come to a show.

This winter, I will be doing more of …

I love to bake, so I’ll most likely be trying out some new recipes. I’m also looking forward to spending more time in my garden.

On Friday after work, you will find me …

One of two places. Out and about supporting as many local arts organisations as I can or rugged up at home with my family, in front of the fire.

What I wish more people knew about theatre production is …

Most audiences only see the finished product. I’m very conscious of trying to share the entire process behind staging a work of theatre, and particularly new Australian stories. At Queensland Theatre, we are so lucky to have all of our teams onsite with everything built under one roof. We often have multiple productions rehearsing at the one time, so walking through the workshop and wardrobe is always a flurry of activity.
