Primo Foods broke the Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest Serving of Breakfast Rolls’ at its Wacol factory on Friday 18 January. The record was achieved during a celebration at its Wacol factory during the unveiling of Australia’s largest single solar panel rooftop.

Primo Foods Chief Operating Officer Bruce Sabatta unveiled the solar panel roof this morning, while 2091 Primo bacon and egg rolls were cooked on barbecues powered by energy from the 3.2-megawatt solar panel system. Weighing in at approximately 313.65 kilograms in total, the brekky rolls were enjoyed by Primo workers, with the remainder donated to Foodbank to support people in need. With electricity usage at the Wacol site sitting at 38,000 MWh per annum, the team at Primo in partnership with CleanPeak Energy and Todae Solar implemented the solar panel system to maintain a sustainable business and future.

Bruce said with global meat production being responsible for nearly 15 per cent of the world’s carbon emissions, Primo wanted to promote the sustainability of natural resources while providing quality products that meet the needs of customers. “We’re thrilled to be celebrating two huge firsts for Australia today; the launch of the country’s largest single solar panel rooftop here at the Primo factory in Wacol, and an official Guinness World Records title for the Largest Serving of Breakfast Rolls, complete with our very own delicious shortcut bacon. We know Aussies love a good bacon and egg roll for breakfast, and we wanted to do something to celebrate with our staff and the local community,” he said.

Covering roughly 25,000 square metres – approximately 75 per cent of the factory’s roof – the system will generate 4869 MWh of power in its first year and save 1.2 million tonnes of CO2 across 20 years, the equivalent of powering 20,032 homes for one year. The never-before attempted Guinness World Records title took more than 140 kilograms of Primo shortcut bacon, 2160 Australian eggs, and 2100 rolls, all topped off with a choice of barbecue or tomato sauce. The effort took just under two hours and involved more than 50 Primo workers.

Brian Sobel, official adjudicator for Guinness World Records, measured and assessed the record this morning. He said, “To see 2091 breakfast rolls cooked purely off solar energy was truly remarkable. Congratulations Primo Foods on your official Guinness World Records title.”
