Portrait artist Laura Smith hosted the opening night of her exhibition Living Legends at Urban Paradise Gallery on Friday 31 August. Award-winning sculpture artists Peter Steller and Mela Cooke also showed their exhibition Wild Forms, with Peter’s work featuring salvaged timber where some forms were only millimetres thin. He used the natural lines of the grain to enhance and transform each piece into a unique sculpture. Mela’s sculptures were of the human body, they aimed to convey the character and personality of her subjects with a simplicity of line and honest of form. Laura’s work showcased 20 stunning portraits of living legends including former international cricketer Alan Border, former rugby league player Darren Lockyer, playwright David Williamson, and founder of Hear and Say Dimity Dornan. Laura hosted Darren Lockyer at the gallery the day after opening night. The exhibition will run until 16 September.
