Alliance Française de Brisbane will host the tasting of the 2018 Beaujolais nouveau on the Queensland Terrace at the State Library of Queensland on Saturday 17 November from 4pm to 6pm. Event-goers will enjoy two glasses of Beaujolais nouveau, paired with chef’s selection of premium farmhouse and international cheeses, along with other grazing delicacies.

Founder of Uncorked and Cultivated Peter Scudamore-Smith returns for another year to introduce Beaujolais and give tasting notes about the 2018 vintage. Peter is one of Australia’s leading wine consultants and one of only two people in Australia to be awarded a Master of Wine; the highest achievement in the global wine community. Guests will also enjoy chansons à boire from the Alliance Française de Brisbane choir, Chantefique. Widely regarded as one of the most celebrated events in France’s cultural calendar Beaujolais nouveau is the world’s most popular vin de primeur.

A red wine, made from Gamay grapes born in the region south of Burgundy, Beaujolais nouveau is produced and bottled only a few weeks after harvest and is meant to be consumed immediately – not aged, like many other varieties of wine. Released only once a year, it is a requirement under French law that this light and fruity wine not be distributed until 12:01am on the third Thursday of November each year. In France, a race to carry the first bottle of Beaujolais nouveau to Paris has become a national event, with cafés and bars across the city announcing when “Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé!” (Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived!).

Alliance Française is importing this exclusive wine direct from France so the community in-and-around Brisbane can join in this global event.
