The Metro Arts welcomed the opening of Sancintya Mohini Simpson’s Bloodlines, telling the untold stories of women taken from Indian to South Africa as indentured labourers, at its Brisbane theatre on Wednesday 5 September. Bloodlines brings a voice to harrowing and hidden experiences; tricked onto vessels, often raped and abused on board and ill-treated on the sugar cane plantations they were sent to. The exhibition remembers these women, especially that of Simpson’s own matrilineal heritage. Bloodlines will run until Saturday 22 September.
