Brisbane film makers were given a prop, a character and a line of dialogue and just 48 hours to make a film as part of a worldwide short filmmaking competition. Twenty-eight films were written, shot, edited and finished over the weekend of 16 to 18 September, by teams competing in the Brisbane leg of The 48 Hour Film Project.

Although technically a Brisbane-based competition, this year local filmmakers were joined by teams competing in Shanghai, Canada and Sydney. To ensure all teams did their creative work within the allowed 48 hours they were given Three Required Elements for inclusion in the final film. This year teams were required to include a measuring tape as a prop, the character Steve or Stephanie Villner and the line, “Oh my God. This is the answer I’ve been looking for.”

All of the short films created as part of the competition will have their premiere screening on 10 and 11 October at Event Cinemas Myer Centre, with the public invited to cast their vote for the Audience Choice Award. The finished films will also be judged by an industry panel at a free awards ceremony to be held on October 12.
