Dave McAdam of Brisbane is cycling across Australia with the goal of raising $250,000 for cystic fibrosis research.

Dubbing his journey a #RaceToTheStars, Dave will be cycling from Fremantle, WA to Brisbane, QLD, covering 4300 kms in over two weeks, in the ultimate test of strength and endurance.

After beginning at Fremantle on Friday, 7 July,  Dave will reach Byron Bay on Saturday, 22 July. A charity ride to see him home, arriving at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane on the afternoon of Sunday, 23 July, where his two year old niece Freya is currently receiving treatment for cystic fibrosis.

“My ultimate dream is to see Freya and other children suffering from cystic fibrosis live a long, happy life free from this debilitating illness,” said Dave.

“I wanted to do something that would get a lot of attention to raise as much as I can for Freya and the community of cystic fibrosis. To see her reach all of her own dreams and goals is why I’m doing this ride. I want to know we have done all that we can for Freya.”

Dave, who is a corporate executive at Bank of Queensland (BOQ) and has two children himself, is accompanied by his two-man support crew, meeting locals whilst being on his bike an average of 10 hours a day.

“I have always been an avid rider and feel both excited and daunted about the challenge of riding across Australia. It’s definitely going to be one of the biggest challenges of my life, but nothing compared to those living with cystic fibrosis,” said Dave.

Dave is calling out to any bike riders to join him on his journey if he’s passing through their town.
