If the bright pink and blue sails waving to passersby is not enough to gander attention, the wafts of sweet spices and salty broths billowing from Wow Dumpling on Vulture Street will draw a crowd to the new Asian fusion restaurant opened in mid-July.

From humble beginnings at South Brisbane’s food start-up incubator Wandering Cooks, owners Yuki and Susan are bringing zest and bite to West End six days a week. Serving a variety of noodles, rice, soups and curries, it is no secret that dumplings are Wow’s claim to fame. Flavour bursts from silky skins at the softest bite, fillings overflowing on the palate with a deluge of stuffings. The Pork Dumplings swimming in Szechuan Chilli Oil dotted with peanuts was our pick, alongside Prawn Dumplings. The next course opened up the range of other dishes available at Wow, including Pork Dim Sum, and clouds of bun pull away to reveal a succulent filling of barbecue pork.

One draw card that brings customers back is the specialty Szechuan Chilli Oil, hand made by the owning pair. Using chillis imported from Guangyuan in the Szechuan province, the dry chillis are freshly, traditionally crushed by local farmers, sealing in taste.

Wow Dumpling is located at Shop 1/60 Vulture Street in West End, and is open 11am to 8pm Tuesday to Sunday.
