The upcoming six-track EP features songs that explore lust, broken promises, indulgence, flamboyance, and desire. This is a shift in style for Ella, shown through incorporating the bold sounds of synthesisers and programmed beats. It’s a passionate, raw take on her experiences as an uncompromising artist, navigating her way through a world where it seems that everyone has a hidden agenda.
“This is not a song about drugs.
The first single from the new EP, Dancer, was well recived by audiences during Ella’s Secret Motel Tour. It was a tour like none other, with fans getting exclusive access to unreleased tracks all performed inside motel rooms in secret locations.
The set-up had the three piece, all-female band turns motel rooms across the country upside down, pushing beds against walls, moving out furniture and setting up stages, lighting, full PA audio, and a dance floor, along with plenty of champagne. The multi-instrumentalists played everything from guitar to synth and vocals.
“The Sydney show got shut down by the Motel management straight after we finished our set – perfect timing! Ha! It was pretty thrilling because they had no idea what we were doing until they opened the door,” said Ella.
Following the success of her debut EP Wanderlust, Ella honed her stagecraft as lead character Snow White in a dark-twisted collaboration between Opera Queensland, La Boite Theatre Company, and Brisbane Festival. Throughout this time, Ella was awarded Song of the Year and Video of the Year for her track ‘Unknown Water’ at the Gold Coast Music Awards.
