Australian Glass and Ceramic

November 16, 2018 10:00 am - November 18, 2018 5:00 pm

Using their skills and knowledge, Australian glass and ceramic artists create distinctive personal languages filtered through their own experiences. This exhibition displays some of the work from these Australian artists at QAGOMA.

The development of Australian glass is largely a narrative of friendships, mentorships and collaboration between individuals rather than organisations. The magical appeal of glass – and the unique qualities in the play of transmitted, reflected and refracted light – has driven a spirit of inquiry and experimentation by Australian artists.

Ceramic dishes, bowls and bottles have been in continual use for centuries, with function generally dictating form in the design of practical vessels intended for daily use. Shapes for particular applications have evolved over time, and studio potters in Australia continue to explore a wide variety of styles and decorative elements.
