The Happy Prince Premiere
The Australian Ballet is proud to announce that the much-anticipated world premiere of The Happy Prince by Australia’s own master storyteller Graeme Murphy will debut at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane. The Happy Prince will tell a timeless tale of compassion and friendship. It’s the story of a beautiful golden statue who stands high on a hill above the city, weeping for the suffering he sees below. This powerful story will move adults and children alike. Australia’s greatest choreographer Graeme Murphy will bring to The Happy Prince, the narrative flair and boldly original movement that have earned him numerous awards and honours across his prolific career. An all-star Australian line-up of creative collaborators will include the award-winning artist and theatre director Kim Carpenter, whose theatrical adaptation of Wilde’s story forms the foundation of this work. The story unfolds to a specially commissioned score by Christopher Gordon, a renowned composer of film scores, including Mao’s Last Dancer and Master and Commander.
