One of Australia’s largest early childhood arts event is calling on volunteers for its 2016 Out of the Box festival. Held biennially at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Out of the Box is in its 24th year of fabulous arts-based performances, workshops, free events and symposiums.

Held between June 21 and June 28, Out of the Box is the only arts festival in Australia dedicated to children eight years and under, and attracted more than 103,000 participants in 2014. Working in collaboration with the Queensland Art Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Queensland Museum, the State Library of Queensland and South Bank, the eight-day festival relies on the time and skills of enthusiastic volunteers.

“The success of this iconic event would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of volunteers who carry out vital roles in creating unique experiences for thousands of Queensland children,” says Out of the Box Festival Director Brett Howe, who is aiming to recruit 400 volunteers to make this year’s festival a reality.

Many volunteers continue to return year after year, as the festival attracts hundreds of motivated individuals who are passionate about the arts and enjoy working with children. The Festival is looking for volunteers for diverse and rewarding roles, including information booth attendants, school buddies, rovers and guides, catering assistants, workshop helpers and administration assistants.

Applications close on April 1 for those without a Blue Card, or April 22 for applicants who already hold a current Blue Card. For more information on how to apply, go to the Out of the Box website.
