South East Queenslanders in need of a fitness goal are being urged to register and start training for Bicycle Queensland’s Great Brisbane Bike Ride, with just twelve weeks to go until event day on Sunday 29 April.

CEO of Bicycle Queensland Anne Savage said the signature event could see locals collectively cycle approximately 150,000 kilometres in one day.

“The Great Brissy Bike Ride and Coot-tha Challenge is one of Queensland’s best-loved bicycle adventures,” Ms Savage said.

“It’s a great opportunity for families, friends, and workmates to have fun and get fit. We’d love to see participants involve their whole community this year, in a bid to get Queensland cycling and achieve our goal of making Queenslanders Australia’s healthiest people.”

Bicycle Queensland Ambassador and Director-General of Queensland Health Michael Walsh will take part in this year’s ride.

“We have a bold vision to get 3,000 Brisbanites on bikes for this year’s ride, which will traverse all the way across our great city from the Gateway Bridge out to the Cunningham Highway at Riverview,” Ms Savage said.

“For more daring riders we’ll be throwing down the time-trial mats for the iconic Mount Coot-tha Challenge — a timed 2.3 kilometre, nine per cent climb, up Brisbane’s highest peak.

“It’s truly an event for people of all ages and fitness levels, with three course options – 110km, 75km, and 40km – as well as a Family Fun Ride. We’re encouraging bike lovers, fitness enthusiasts, and aspirational athletes to register today and set a 12-week fitness challenge to carve-up on Mount Coot-tha.”

Riders will have exclusive access to closed roads on Kingsford Smith Drive, the Inner City Bypass, and Mount Coot-tha.
