My name is Annette Little and I grew up and live in 4101. My father is Greek and my mum is Aussie.
I grew up in Brighton Road from 1970 and am one of the many members of the well-known local Bellas family in 4101.
I spent my childhood shopping in West End with my mum and going to Greek school at the back of the little Greek church in Boundary Street. We all worked a Saturday job during high school, and university. I worked at McBrides on Boundary Street.
Now I run a cooking business with my younger sister Bernie called Spinach Leaf, making spanakopita (spinach and feta) pies. We are very influenced by our Greek heritage and proud of it. We grew up eating Greek foods and being surrounded by our Greek relatives at various functions and it was always food that brought us together.
I am a teacher and my sister Bernie is a nurse but we have both always loved cooking. We were both home with our kids and decided to cook spanakopita to sell as we knew it could not be purchased anywhere locally. Three years later and we sell a lot of pies through Samios Deli and cafés in West End such as Plenty and Blackstar as well as in Yeronga, Woolloongabba, New Farm, Bulimba and Carindale. We source our produce daily and make and bake pies fresh every day.
I now live on Gladstone Road and am surrounded by my great aunts and uncles on every corner. We thank them for our love of food.
