Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health Ken Wyatt AM is putting out an urgent final call for people to nominate their fellow Australians – especially seniors – for the 2019 Australian of the Year Awards.

“The nomination process is simple and I encourage you to put forward the person you think should be recognised as the 2019 Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and as Australia’s Local Hero,” Minister Wyatt said. “It is crucial we celebrate the roles that many inspiring Australians play in our communities such as 2018 Senior Australian of the Year, biophysicist Dr Graham Farquhar AO. Dr Farquhar was joined by amazing State and Territory recipients, ranging from the Northern Territory’s Kathy Guthadjaka, a senior Elder from Gawa in Arnhem Land, to South Australian aged care justice campaigner Barbara Spriggs. Every Australian has a vital part to play in the search for people whose often humble contributions and achievements are making a big difference. It only takes one nomination for someone to be in the running.”

Nominations for all categories of the Australian of the Year Awards can be submitted online and assistance with submissions is available by calling 1300 655 193. Nominations close at midnight on Tuesday 31 July 2018. State and Territory award recipients go on to be finalists for the national awards, announced in Canberra on 25 January 2019.
