The Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s (QSO) first Maestro Concert of 2021 – Arabian NightsMusic of Love and Intrigue, opened with a bang in Queensland Performing Arts Centre‘s (QPAC) Concert Hall on 19 February. The performance encompassed thrilling spins on the time-honoured The Arabian Nights tales by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic suite Scheherazade. Under Conductor Laureate Johannes Fritzsch, the concert also featured Ravel’s impressionistic take on the waltz, La valse. During the opening, it was announced that Maestro Johannes Fritzsch is the newest Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser of Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
