Every year, Queensland’s best producers, providores and artisans make their way to South Bank for a mid-winter celebration of one of the Sunshine State’s best asset: food, glorious food.
Regional Flavours, presented by The Courier-Mail, is a celebration of everything that makes Queensland’s food industry great: plenty of sunshine, an amazing array of produce and our alfresco lifestyle. Every year, around 85,000 foodies head to Brisbane’s most vibrant lifestyle precinct to nosh their way through a food adventure of epic proportions.
For two days in mid-July (16 & 17), the already lush South Bank Parklands blooms into a foodlovers’ paradise where 80 of the state’s best artisans, producers and winemakers join with chefs and foodies to sample and showcase fresh produce, local fare and fine wine. The free event is filled with cooking demonstrations and workshops presented by an exciting line up of celebrity chefs and industry experts — plus free children’s activities and live music.
Each year, the producers, plus South Bank’s best restaurants, line Little Stanley Street with the Queensland Producer Showcase and eatSouthBank Food Trucks. Visitors can meander their way through, sampling and buying as they go.
Any foodie worth their salt knows to head along to Regional Flavours’ hub of culinary talent and food trends, EAT-SHOW-TELL, where special guests Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris from Network TEN’s MasterChef Australia, share their gourmet-at-home tips and tricks. Also present will be Maggie Beer, founder of the Maggie Beer Foundation; master patissier Adriano Zumbo, Miguel Maestre from Network TEN’s The Living Room, Lola Berry, Nutritionist & Author, and Paul West from River Cottage Australia on Foxtel’s Lifestyle FOOD, among others.
With a head full of inspiration and tips, foodies can make for The Hunting Club presented by Target 100 and The Charming Squire to sip on Queensland’s best brews (Including Regional Flavours very own smoked Porter) and taste amazing food and produce as the likes of Hayden Quinn, presenter for Meat and Livestock Australia, Alastair McLeod, Lockyer Valley Food Ambassador, and industry experts demonstrate the latest in meat trends.
For those who prefer a drop of the wine variety, Queensland Taste presented by The Courier-Mail is home to the state’s award-winning wine and cheese plus informative masterclasses.
Visitors are invited to channel their inner-green thumb at River Cottage Australia at Epicurious Garden presented by Foxtel’s Lifestyle FOOD (where sustainable living is the order of the day), before making their way to River Quay presented by eatSouthBank, where sun, live music, and delicious bites from South Bank’s finest restaurants are all on the afternoon’s agenda.
Sweet dreams come true at the sugar-loaded dessert stage, Sweet Escape presented by Merlo Coffee, where patrons will find fantastical saccharine adventures in sweetness.
The young — and young at heart — will be kept occupied at the Little Farmers’ Day Out, or families can roll out a rug and soak up the atmosphere at The Picnic Patch presented by the Lockyer Valley Region.
