Richard Nguyen, a nine year old from Vietnam is drumming his way to become Australia’s next professional drummer. He has been drumming away from the age of six, learning the art of drumming at Soul Academy in Vietnam. He has won many prizes over the years such as winning second prize in the Renaissance International School Saigon Talent Show 2016 and first prize in the same school in the following 2018 and 2019 years.

Only arriving this year, Richard has started studying at the Just Percussion school in Newstead two hours per week. He learns about high skill drumming, double pedaling and at the same time, he is also studying at MK drum following trinity about six hours per week.  Furthermore, Richard also practices at home with his father at least seven hours per week. In total, Richard spends at least 15 hours per week drumming.

His work isn’t all for nothing though. Richard’s long term goal is to join the music program at Brisbane State High School in the next two years, and from there hopes to be accepted into the Conservatorium Griffith University. It his lifelong dream to become Australia’s next professional drummer. In 2020, Richard will join the Creative Generation where he will hopefully then get to Australia’s Got Talent in 2021. Likewise, Richard also has his own YouTube channel, Aussie Drummers Band, where there are videos of him performing his drum skills, and achieving likes with nearly 200 views.

Recently, Richard performed on the 25th of October in West End state school.
