Since the council budget came out just over a month ago, Cr Jonathan Sri  has been working hard to improve community spaces in the Gabba Ward.

A particular community space of interest are the bike lanes at Vulture Street, South Brisbane. With cyclist numbers on the rise and the proliferation of escooters, Cr Sri is continuing to push for more dedicated bike lanes along major roads, to reduce interactions between pedestrians and bikes, and between bikes and cars.

“One area where it would be quite easy to create a separated bike lane without removing car parks or spending much money is along the eastbound section of Vulture St, between Dock St and Allen St.Council’s bikeways team are working on a concept design for this stretch of Vulture St, but we just need to convince council to allocate the funding for this to happen,” Cr Sri said. “Because the existing lanes are so wide along this section of Vulture St, this is an easy project for council to deliver without impacting vehicle traffic flow.”

Cr Sri encourages all residents who would like to see further improvements to bike safety around South Brisbane, and reduce the need for escooters and pedestrians to share narrow footpaths, to write to the Lord Mayor.
